Report on the Review of the Residential Aged Care Accreditation Scheme

In 2002, the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology spearheaded the Pilot Project on Accreditation System for Residential Care Services for the Elders in Hong Kong. In 2005, the Residential Aged Care Accreditation Scheme was established and the Association invited Government officials, professionals, academics, operators of residential care homes for the elderly, and other stakeholders to join the Advisory Committee and the Steering Committee. The Scheme, which accredits residential aged care homes with enhanced service quality under a comprehensive system, is the only scheme in Hong Kong being recognized by an international accreditation organization. Such accredited status is passed on to residential care homes for the elderly which can successfully complete the accreditation process.
